House -

€675,000 - £584,550**

Located in the charming alpine hamlet of Montmery on the sunny side of the Tarentaise valley, this beautifully renovated "maison de village" exudes Savoyard character, unique features and is ideal for a large family or could be rented out as a gite or AirBnB. The village is only a short drive to the valley and up to La Plagne, where you can enjoy the vast ski domaine with its 225km of pistes.
The renovation has been carried out to a very high standard by local artisans and the owners. They have preserved much of the old wood in the house which can be seen on the second floor with the incredible master bedroom making the most of the high ceilings and immense windows over the valley.
There isn't just one heart to this building; the kitchen is cosy and comfortable and feels like a true farm kitchen but the lounge and dining areas mean that the family can gather together with space and comfort.
The house also comes with a huge art and crafts atelier and workshop space.

The house has five large bedrooms, one of which has a mezzanine area; all of them are unique with fabulous features you can only find in a property renovated to this standard.

The ground floor has a spacious entrance hall which takes you either to the comfortable lounge with stone fireplace or into the beautiful kitchen with its Alpine charm. Off the kitchen is a large dining room with space to seat at least eight guests.

The second floor has to be seen to be believed; it is like stepping into another world with stairs to a balcony area around the double height space on one side, steps down to an office area and through to a bedroom, steps up to the master bedroom with its exposed beams and vast windows and doors to either side into unique bedrooms. There are two bathrooms on this level.

There is also access from here to the workshop and up some more stairs to the bright and airy art studio. This also leads to the terrace and garden to the upper side of the property.

There is more storage to either side of the house; on one side the hot water tanks and fuel tank are located, the other side is space for garden furniture and outdoor equipment.

The property has everything you could need for a large family (it was built for a family of seven!) or even to run as a gîte business. The owners run art classes from the atelier at the top of the house and also rent out rooms for weekends only and they have had visitors from all over the world who come and enjoy the charm of this very special property.

Montmery is a peaceful village on the balcony road across the Versant du Soleil; the sunny side of the valley. Only a short drive to the shops and businesses in Aime, which also has a TGV rail station, or turn in the other direction towards Bourg Saint Maurice and the Haute Tarentaise.

Summers are full of walking and mountain biking, either up at village level or down along the cycle path of the valley to the local lake. In winter, the location is ideal for planning different activities; cross country skiing at the nearby circuit a few minutes along the road or up into the nearby resorts of La Plagne and Les Arcs. Paradiski is on your doorstep.

Whether as a family residence, holiday home or business venture, this uniquely renovated house offers a rare opportunity to enjoy an Alpine lifestyle with year-round activities, amazing skiing and a quiet location in a truly wonderful part of the Tarentaise Valley.

About Ski area of this property

Ski Area: Paradiski

Paradiski is the name of the joint La Plagne, Les Arcs, ski area linked together by the Vanoise Express cable car. Opened in December 2003,the Vanoise Express is currently the world's largest single span cable car; in fact there are two of them both capable of ferrying 200 people across the Ponthurin valley that divides the two areas. The journey and the views make for a spectacular 4-minute ride.In total Paradiski offers a HUGE 425 km of piste. Individually, La Plagne (225 km) and Les Arcs (200km) are significant ski areas in their own right and are both made up of different villages. In La Plagne the high altitude villages are Aime 2000, Plagne Centre, Belle Plagne, Plagne Bellecote, Plagne Soleil, Plagne Villages and Plagne 1800. These are all situated between 1800m and 2100m and offer snowsure high altitude ski in ski out convenience.Lower down the delightful villages of Montchavin, Les Coches, Montalbert and Champagny en Vanoise all offer the charm and cosy comfort of village life, with their own tree lined local slopes and easy access to the high altitude slopes of La Plagne. In Les Arcs the high altitude villages are Arcs 1600, Arcs 1800, Arcs 2000 and, the latest development, Arcs 1950. Again these all offer a ski in ski out experience. Great cruising runs through the trees lead to the lower villages of Plan Peisey, Vallandry and Villaroger for a more traditional mountain experience. Both La Plagne and Les Arcs offer something for everyone. Early intermediate blue and red run skiers can soon explore the area and travel around the mountain enjoying some of the good value mountain restaurants. However with two glaciers at over 3,000m, a wealth of "between the piste" and off piste and long runs through the trees, there really is something for all levels of skier - and let's not forget you boarders out there - both resorts offer a choice of snowparks with jumps, rails and the all important, music. La Plagne, Les Arcs, Paradiski - one of the world's great ski areas.
